a post that hurts my heart to write...

The above road represents home for me. A home where I have family, the things and times I cherish from my childhood.
After the devastation of yesterday, my heart is hurting, Just looking at the pictures makes tears begin to stream down my face and I cannot fathom the amount of hurt the people of Moore, Oklahoma are going through right now. I cannot imagine losing everything I owned and it is even harder to think about losing a sweet sweet child. My thoughts and prayers are with these families.

To help the people of Moore, OK...
from now until the end of May, all proceeds from anything purchased in my Etsy shop will go to help the people of Moore. I am doing my research about the best place to donate the money and will be sure to give you an update of the exact spot I decide. I wish that I was closer and could help in person, but this is the best that I can do for now.

Hold your loved ones tight, never pass up a moment to tell them what they mean to you, and be grateful for each moment.

introducing the Happy Heart Collection

lately i haven't been able to get hearts out of my head, i'm not sure what that means but i would have to say i could probably guess that i am pretty happy. i am so blessed in my life and feel extremely loved by everyone around me. enter the happy heart collection. i am so inspired by this simple shape that means so much and couldn't everyone use a little pop of color with a heart in their life. check out the new items being added to my shop in the coming weeks. i am ready to get busy busy.

what a poser...

i feel ridiculous. i am an awful at this posing thing. most of the time i want to jump up and down or make a super goofy face, because thats just me. i feel better when i act dumb. shh.
dont tell anyone.
like seriously? what is that super serious face to the left? and what kind of hill am i climbing on the right. oh well... i will get better.

shirt, boots, and jeans: Charlotte Russe//
cardigan: Gap Outlet

and now for a little weekend update...

i had a little wine-o// tried to explain Girl Scout cookies to HandyAndy (since when do cookies need explaining?)// he also decided to call me goofy, what a romantic guy huh? i actually found it to be pretty sweet// and i found my cat hiding under my Christmas tree, which i finally decided i had to take it down.
i also made a little housewarming present for two of my friends that just purchased their home together. they are getting married in May and i couldn't be more excited for them. i used fabrics and a frame i already had and i am thinking of adding a few of these to my etsy shop as well.

how was your weekend? did you do anything fun?

a little about why...

SaraMontanas started as a way to push me past my comfort zone. a way that i could explore the creativity that i had lost in my current job. it has now become something that i love. i do struggle with the timing of it all, managing a everyday job working 6 days a week, working out(which has seemed to be on the back burner) and being the best girlfriend possible. the shop has been pushed towards the back. and so has this blog. for that i am sorry. i have made a commitment to myself once again this morning to do better. to do more. yes this may mean late nights, this may mean not sleeping as much, or catching up with the tv i rarely watch, but this life is short. this shop is something that i love, something i am passionate about. something that is mine.

the basic idea behind this shop and what makes it different, are the materials that i use. everything that once was something else can be turned into something completely different. as of right now about 80% of all my materials are not newly bought. i may find them in someones closet, at the local thrift store, or donated to me because people don't know what to do with their items that they no longer need.

from these scraps of fabric i create handmade items in my small home in madison, georgia. the sewing machine was a birthday gift from my mother 2 years ago and since then i have taught myself to use it. to sew a somewhat straight line, to put in a zipper, and to keep my fingers from out of the needle. i enjoy this time to myself. i enjoy seeing an item that i complete from start to finish and then putting the work into figuring out how to market and sell that item.

my next goal is to get up a larger inventory and not just have the time to fill custom orders. i want to have a database (you could call it) of clutches, pillows, etc that i can pull from. i want to have enough to set up a booth at a craft fair and try my hand at that.

in all honesty i am not sure where this is all headed. not sure whether i will succeed or whether this will evolve into something completely different. but right now the best idea is for me to set short term goals and meet those. slowly but surely i will figure it all out.

i am taking custom orders until this coming Wednesday to ensure delivery by Christmas.
use the code "bloggybuyer" for 10% off your order from now until Christmas.
also be sure to check out the sale page of my etsy shop.

a vintage kind of Christmas

Currently I just can't get enough of looking at vintage Christmas decor. I really want to find some glass Christmas balls that I can start to use year after year. Right now my tree consists of ornaments that have been purchased in the past two years, ones that were cheap, or just matched the overall color scheme of my tree.
I LOVE the colors in all of the ones below, as I am much more of a blue/green/pink girl than all that red. Red just doesn't go well with all that I already have.  The following Etsy Shops have had the best ones so far, and  I just can't decide if I should buy some over the internet or look around and find some local.
Grandma Gingers Closet
An Unexpected Journey
Market Fresh Vintage
Retro Vintage Bazaar
Antique Glass Christmas Ornaments Occupied Japan vintage
via
Vintage Christmas Ornaments, Shiny Brite Glass Tree Ornaments
via
Set of 12 Vintage Shiny Brite Glass Christmas Ornaments
via
Vintage Small Mercury Glass Christmas Ornaments Multi Color and Styles
via
Handpainted mercury glass Christmas ornaments double indent
via
What are your favorite Christmas decorations? Are you all about new? Do you like the old??
Be sure to go check out all of these Etsy shops.
I am trying more and more to buy from small businesses, because I have started my own.

I have a question.

Most of the time I just carry on and on about myself, my boring exciting life, and my stuff.
But not today.
Today I need your help. I have a question for all you bloggers.

What kind of camera do you use?

I am thinking about saving up to purchase a new one, and I just have no idea what I need.
I would like to use it for pictures on my blog and to take quality pictures of my make-up bags and clutches.

Being fairly new to the blogging world, I was hoping I could get some suggestions.
As of now, I just use a Sony Cybershot.
I have had it since college and it has been through a lot.

Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Please remember, I am not a crazy rich person. I am just getting started.

Thanks for your time on this Happy Friday.

keep on keepin on...

It seems that lately I can't get ahead. I work on things and get partly done and something else comes up. I'm guessing the best thing to do is just to "keep on keepin on." Things will get done in their own time, and I WILL make this side business work. Positive thinking is key. More hours in the day would be ideal, but last night I actually accomplished some things on my never-ending list of to do's.
So without further adieu...

Check out all the new items I just added to my Etsy Shop!

Pink, Yellow, Orange Patterned Make Up/Jewelry Pouch with Bright Yellow Lining

Pink, White, and Teal Retro Patterned Make Up/Jewelry Pouch with Bright Yellow Lining

Multi-Colored Patterned Make Up/Jewelry Pouch with Bright Yellow Lining

Bright Flannel Patterned Makeup/Jewelry Bag Fully Lined

These can all be used as makeup/jewelry bags or bags to hold smaller items within a larger purse.
They would be perfect to keep your sunglasses from getting scratched inside your bag. I can do custom orders and have a big variety of fabrics on hand.

Email me about custom orders or large quantities.
