So, GOD made a farmer!

this might seem a little typical a day or two after this commercial came out on Super Bowl Sunday, however this post is one that has been in my head for a while. coming from an agriculture background i have never known any different. my papa was a farmer, my daddy a horse trainer and all those around me throughout my life live the agriculture way of life. i grew up in a small South Georgia farming town, went to a school for an Agriculture Business degree, rode on an equestrian team in college and got a scholarship from horse judging. i know work for a feed manufacture and interact every single day with farmers.
i am blessed to know these people. it amazes me that so many growing up do not understand where there food comes from, what there clothes are made of, or the hardworking men and women that create, grow, and take care of these things. these farmers are often looked over and the small family farm has now become almost non-existent.
i was involved in both FFA and 4-H from the beginning of 5th grade and i loved meeting other "ag" kids from across my state and the country. these organizations taught me so much about being a good person, a hard worker, and someone that you can trust. we need more programs like these for kids these days.
And on the 8th day God looked down on his planned paradise and said, "I need a caretaker!".
So, God made a farmer!
God said I need somebody to get up before dawn and milk cows and work all day in the fields, milk cows again, eat supper and then go to town and stay past midnight at a meeting of the school board.
  So, God made a farmer!
I need somebody with strong arms. Strong enough to rustle a calf, yet gentle enough to deliver his own grandchild. Somebody to call hogs, tame cantankerous machinery, come home hungry and have to wait for lunch until his wife is done feeding and visiting with the ladies and telling them to be sure to come back real soon...and mean it. So, God made a farmer!
God said "I need somebody that can shape an ax handle, shoe a horse with a hunk of car tire, make a harness out of hay wire, feed sacks, and shoe scraps. And...who, at planting time and harvest season, will finish his forty hour week by Tuesday noon. Then, pain'n from "tractor back", put in another seventy two hours.
So, God made a farmer!
God had to have somebody willing to ride the ruts at double speed to get the hay in ahead of the rain clouds and yet stop on mid-field and race to help when he sees the first smoke from a neighbor's place.
So, God made a farmer!
God said, "I need somebody strong enough to clear trees, heave bails and yet gentle enough to tame lambs and wean pigs and tend the pink combed pullets...and who will stop his mower for an hour to mend the broken leg of a meadow lark.
So, God made a farmer!
It had to be somebody who'd plow deep and straight...and not cut corners. Somebody to seed and weed, feed and breed...and rake and disc and plow and plant and tie the fleece and strain the milk. Somebody to replenish the self feeder and then finish a hard days work with a five mile drive to church. Somebody who'd bale a family together with the soft strong bonds of sharing, who'd laugh and then sigh...and then respond with smiling eyes, when his son says he wants to spend his life "doing what dad does".
So, God made a farmer!

so yes, this post has been about the farmers. the ones that rise before the sun to get their jobs done, the ones that make it possible for us to have meals on our tables and clothes on our backs, the ones who's families sacrifice time with them because sometimes work must come first, and the ones that pass down those traits to their families so that their legacy may continue.
go thank a farmer today.

I'm a little late...

I'm a little late today...
This post should have been made yesterday on my "Thankful Thursday", however, I made a promise to myself to say 5 things I am thankful for each week. So Friday it is.

  • I am thankful today is Friday. This week seems unbelievably long and work each day has felt like it never ends. I am not quite sure why this is, but maybe it's because...
  • My sister and mama are coming this weekend!!! I am so excited!! I love spending time with Audrey and Mama Ginny! We are going to the Mart in the ATL on Monday, so I get a day off work. HipHipHooray.
  • the RAIN!!! Goodness, we have needed it!! Working for a feed company, I hear everyday the amount of moisture in the ground, and lately its only been the lack of. This rain has helped us greatly. Keep it coming Lord, we are so grateful.
  • I am thankful for my small town this week. I got to see a deer on one of my afternoon runs, and one of my sweet customers brought me a bag of peaches. I love knowing at least a couple people everywhere you go and it never gets old being close to animals while out on a jog.

  • And finally, I am thankful for my daddy. Today is his birthday and I am thankful today for the things he has taught me, the horse lessons I have learned, and the life lessons I learned from those. He means so much to me and I am thankful for him each and everyday.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY FRANK!!!

That's my thankfulness... even if it is a day late.
Happy Friday everyone!!

fallback Friday

So I have this new computer that I am trying to get set up and I couldn't help but look through a lot of my pictures while I was at it. These pictures make me laugh and smile and cry and lots of other random emotions. They also make me thankful that we have cameras to capture all the silly moments of our lives. The ones that you might forget because they really are not that significant, but the moment you see them you remember exactly everything that was happening.

What did people do without cameras? I have seen older photos and all the people in them were so serious. I know this is probably because times were harder back then, they just didn't smile as much, but it might have also been because they didn't have a camera to capture the funny moments, those little moments its hard to remember.
Those moments are my favorites.

Enjoy some funnies...
I know I did.

a new squeeze, meet "jolly green"

 who wouldn't be terrified??
i really miss "mr nubbs"
(he really loved me in this picture, excuse the moo-moo)

this is "lily grace" our bottle-fed calf, she doesn't need us anymore
but she is still just as cute

i went through a "planking" phase.
don't judge me.

he wanted to be a lego man, it didn't quite work out.

we have the best times in the car.
we look a little crazy.

and here we are years earlier, rocking boots with our tie die.
we are too cute.

and this one is just pure sweetness, and there goes audee with her tie-dyed laces.
gotta love those.

These pics made me giggle tonight, hope they make you at least think I am ridiculous.
I kinda am.
Peace.
