#142

Day 2, Thursday: Educate us on something you know a lot about or are good at. Take any approach you'd like (serious and educational or funny and sarcastic)

After completing this...

Dress: SaraMontana's Original // Shoes: Josie's

... the one thing I think I am good at is "winging it". First off, I have never created another garment, I didn't use a pattern, and my sister doesn't live near me, so constant fittings did not happen. I was asked about this time last year to create Josie's senior prom dress, and being the sweet, sweet sister that I am, of course I said yes. I worked off and on for about 3 months or so. She did give me an idea of what she wanted, but left most of the decision making up to me. I taught myself to sew about 2 years ago and have just been working it out ever since. I enjoyed learning different process and teaching myself by doing has taught me patience, hard work, and patience. Did I say patience?
I think "winging it" has become one of my better qualities, some may prefer to have a plan, but "winging it" has caused me to think on my feet, make a quick decision, and not be easily influenced. All good qualities if you asked me... Yes, I may not have taught you anything specific in this post, but I think that we can all say that "winging it" surely has it's place in this world. Josie's 2013 Senior Prom

A couple of weeks ago my sweet youngest sister attended her senior prom. She couldn't have been more beautiful and I am so glad that she thought to include me in her special day, by getting me to MAKE HER DRESS! Eeek! Seriously, I had never made another garment from start to finish and I have only taught myself to sew less than a year ago. I started with the design in my head last fall, but had been doing little pieces here and there to the actual dress starting in about January. It was a fairly simple design and I sewed a lot of it on top of a pre-existing corset but I am still very proud that I made an actual dress. A dress that she could move and dance in. I personally think she looked gorgeous and I am so happy that she had a great time with her date. I cannot believe she is all grown up and will be graduating in May. Seeing her off to prom brought back lots of memories of my own and being home to share this time with her and the rest of my family is something I will always remember. Later Gators, Montana.

this moment.

This is what I am thankful for today.

A few weeks ago I blogged about being extremely excited about certain things in my life. Certain small opportunities that I have received. Well peeps, this is it.
I made the newspaper!
I was contacted a few weeks ago, and because of my blog, a local writer wanted to do a story on the items I make. I thought it was a joke at first, this small thing I do when I get off work certainly couldn't mean that much to anyone.
Well, of course I said YES!
Go here to read the full article.

As small as this is, I feel like it means something. Like this little side thing I am doing is worth it. Worth what I am not sure yet, but worth putting more effort into. Worth trying for.
So that's it folks, I am thankful. Thankful to the good Lord above that he gave me a sign.
Very Very Thankful.

keep on keepin on...

It seems that lately I can't get ahead. I work on things and get partly done and something else comes up. I'm guessing the best thing to do is just to "keep on keepin on." Things will get done in their own time, and I WILL make this side business work. Positive thinking is key. More hours in the day would be ideal, but last night I actually accomplished some things on my never-ending list of to do's.
So without further adieu...

Check out all the new items I just added to my Etsy Shop!

Pink, Yellow, Orange Patterned Make Up/Jewelry Pouch with Bright Yellow Lining

Thankful Thursday

I had an idea last night that I think will help me be more grateful. I am easily caught up in my day to day things and decided Thursday each week would be perfect.

So here it is, for the first time, THANKFUL THURSDAY!!

I am thankful to be, I am loved by so many people in so many different ways.
I am thankful to have a job, although I complain about it sometimes, I am very lucky and grateful to be employed.
I am thankful that I got a small vacation last week, it was much needed time spent away from the office.
I am thankful for my sewing machine, I am learning each and everyday new things that I never thought I would be able to do.
and finally,
I am thankful for sunshine this week, it may be hot, but the sun makes me smile.
